Songs and the sea: Rotterdam Philharmonic Gergiev Festival 7-15 September
This year, the Gergiev Festival in Rotterdam is celebrating the city’s maritime roots.
And much to our delight, the annual classical music festival has chosen the theme of Sea & You and is promising fans ‘musical pearls with artists of world renown’.
Hans Waege, managing director of the Rotterdam Philharmonic Orchestra and the Rotterdam Philharmonic Gergiev Festival says: “For me, the sea has always been supremely powerful and mysterious at the same time. In my amateur philosopher’s mind, I have always regarded the sea as a metaphor for mankind itself; always somewhat obscure, a source of life and death, curious, and beautiful.”
Sounds wonderful.
