Away from the canals and cafes of the bustling capital, Amsterdam-Noord (Amsterdam North) is a spacious leafy area with picturesque country villages and stylish restaurants on the water. Located just behind Amsterdam Centraal, GVB operate regular free ferry shuttles to this vibrant area. If you have some time to spare, ferry-hopping is also a great – and very economical – way of doing a bit of cruising along the river IJ.
