Live like a local: Open Heritage Days

Holland | No comments

Every year on the second weekend in September, thousands of Dutch monuments welcome visitors to discover the historical and cultural legacy of Holland during Open Heritage Days. Each year the event has a  new theme – this year the theme is ‘travelling’, with a focus on the infrastructure and aspects related to travelling over land, water and air.

Along with famous and well-known landmarks, the weekend is made truly special as holidaymakers gain access to monuments that are normally closed or restricted. Tourists can visit palaces, castles, old farmhouses and factories for free. Occurring annually in the Netherlands since 1986, the weekend encourages citizens and tourists to enjoy the events. Previously a one-day event, Open Heritage Days will take place on 13 and 14 September over the weekend in the whole of the Netherlands.
