Sport events in Amsterdam
Holland has a brilliant sporting calendar, and October is particularly packed with exciting events. Here is a look at what this month has to offer.
On 13 October this event, in its second year, will push participants to the extremes to test their athleticism and stamina. Held at Amsterdam ArenAPark, the Urbanathlon combines a series of running courses and obstacles, spanning 10 to 12 kilometres. This year’s event includes a skate park pool, monkey bars with bonus surprises, running steps of the Amsterdam ArenA, road barriers and Marine hurdles. www.urbanathlon.nl/en/home
Now in its 38th year, Amsterdam’s personal best, the TCS Amsterdam Marathon, will be held on 20 October, and will see record numbers descend upon Amsterdam’s cobbled, flat streets. Among these will be elite runners from around the world, demonstrating that this marathon has its place alongside New York, Boston and London in the world’s leading international races.
Zesdaagse van Amsterdam (Six Days of Amsterdam)
From 21 to 26 October, Amsterdam’s premier track cycling event returns to the Velodrome Amsterdam, and will see pairs of international riders competing over six strenuous racing days. Crowds flock to take in the points races, sprints, time trials and Keirin races. www.zesdaagseamsterdam.nl/
