There are so many great things to do for two in the Netherlands and surrounding destinations when you sail direct from the UK to the Hook of Holland.

Not into the commercial holidays? Well save your trip for two for a later date – Enjoy some quality time with that special someone over Dutch Appeltaart and a glass of wine, visit the tulip fields and offer them a special bunch!

Enchanting Holland

The Netherlands is famous for its canals, who needs Venice when you can hop a ferry, drive to a quaint town in Holland, stay in a charming hotel and enjoy an enchanting tour around its famous canals. Keep warm with a blanket, drinks and snacks while snuggling up and taking in the scenes. Utrecht is a great place for a mini-break for two, it can be romantic as well as a great place to relax with a friend. It is the oldest city in the Netherlands and has a beautiful medieval quarter with a mix of Gothic architecture, the classic Dutch style buildings and a hint of the new. The city’s infrastructure and famous landmarks make it perfect for a ride along its canals. It isn’t as hectic as some of the Netherlands more famous city’s but is still bursting with so much charm and things to do. Utrecht has a fantastic nightlife and lots of places to eat, there are hotels situated in the heart of the city quarters making everything really convenient.

Vibrant City break

For a more vibrant trip for two, Amsterdam is where you want to be! There are special companies that carter to couples, like the Romantic Tour Amsterdam operator who will create a jam-packed itinerary for a visit around the city. If you don’t fancy touring the canals, you could go old school and see the city by Horse and Carriage. Take a day out to enjoy a stroll through Vondelpark, make it a bit more interesting by renting a tandem bike! For an evening out, something a little unusual but great for couples to enjoy is a night at the Tuschinski theatre, followed by drinks at the Vyne for all the wine-lovers and finally the Vesper bar, a top-rated bar in one of Europe’s most renowned cities. What’s great is that even though Amsterdam is a popular destination, Valentine’s Day isn’t as commercial in Holland as the UK so you can still enjoy doing things as a couple without the massive queues for a table for two. There’s plenty of theatres museums and shows to enjoy by day and night, instead of doing the obvious ones, try the Uitkijk cinema, it has a fantastic 1920s interior deco with table laps and big red chairs which create a romantic atmosphere.

Seafront view

Winter or summer, beaches are just perfect, watch the sunset by a bonfire and relax! The Hague offers you a beautiful beach as well as the city experience so you could choose between relaxing by the beach away from the town centre which isn’t too far away either. There are a few hot picks for two like the Grand Hotel Amrâth Kurhaus on the coast by Scheveningen offers a great view of the sea. The Hague is an ideal destination for friends, it’s a sophisticated cosmopolitan metropolis, with grand architecture, famous landmarks as the “The judicial capital of the world“, fine art museums and an excellent shopping district.

The charm of Bruges

Sailing with Stena Line doesn’t have to stop in the Netherlands, the fantastic thing about our port in the Hook of Holland is that it is a good kick-start location to travel onward to surrounding destinations, you could sail and take your car so you and your loved one can really enjoy some quality time, driving through Holland or across the border. Try visiting Belgium from Holland – Take in that enchanting feel that you get from places in Italy expect it’s just across the North Sea! Bruges, has often been referred to as the “Venice of the North”, it has a lot of charming bridges, canals and beautiful historical buildings. There’s also a romantic legend connected to the Minnewate: Legend goes – two lovers who were separated by the girls’ father found each other again by the lake. When the girl in the legend named Minna passed away, her lover built a dam and buried her in front of it then he let the water fill it thus creating the lake we know today.
