Choose more for your next getaway

Recent global challenges have left many of us needing to getaway and reset. We’re all looking forward to reconnecting with loved ones as we slowly and gradually enter a new normal – So now’s the time to start saying goodbye to throwback holiday posts, virtual tours and zoom calls and hello to in-person experiences that hopefully include hugs.

This year at Stena Line it’s all about getting more out of travel, more time catching up with family and friends, more space and fresh sea air when you sail onboard our superferries. More importantly, more freedom and flexibility when you make travel plans that can change if the time is still not right, with safety at the top of everyone’s list…

Planning travel with the feeling of freedom means finding inspirations for outdoor activities or intimate experiences for your most inner circle, here are a few fun safe tips of things you could do this summer:

More space along coastal destinations

While the UK offers beautiful costal and beach resorts in places like Cornwall, Dorset and Devon for a staycation, for a change of scenery and culture you only need to sail across the North Sea to the Netherlands’ hidden beauty spots. The Netherlands has so much more to offer other than city breaks to Amsterdam and Rotterdam:

Zandvoort aan Zee is around 20 miles West of Amsterdam by train merges into Zuid-Kennemerland National Park, which offers you the perfect mix of proximity to the city, beautiful beaches with dunes and sea view and nature reserve giving you so much to explore.

This type of break is perfect with your travel bubble, there’s plenty space and nature plus hotels and private Airbnb with all the amenities you need from wellness centre to restaurants, water sports, hiking wildlife and more (and the Netherlands is one of the leading nations in terms of safety measures and restrictions).

More time outdoors

As well as the beach and cosy hotels, after all this time in lockdown, why not spend more time in the great outdoors? Whether you’re a traditionalist camper or prefer the glamping experience – Camping, glamping and caravanning offers a great alternative to a holiday stay or just visiting family and friends at home.

Zeeland is the perfect region for camping, with several sites and alternatives for an outdoor adventure to suite every type of campers needs.

For family friendly fun, try Camping de Vogel situated just 2 hours from the Hook of Holland and only 46km from Antwerp – This site offers a more glamping style experience to make things a little easier for parents! Accommodation comes complete with Wifi , self-catering facilities, beds and showers. With plenty of outdoor space for the kids to play plus games facilities, swimming pool, sauna for the grownups and more, perfect for spending time reconnecting and recouping.

More freedom with nature

Close to the German border, De Meinweg National Park is perfect for a road trip!

Think Peak District… De Meinweg National Park is a one-of-a-kind beauty spot that can be enjoyed all year round. Flourishing with biodiversity and offers some hilly landscapes which is often hard to find in the Netherlands – Plus an array of bird species, deer, and the zi-zag adder which is a protected under Limburg conservation plan.

This potential post-lockdown retreat offers great activities such as hiking, birdwatching, biking through some Instgramable landscape for all those photography lovers… Couples would love this destination!

After being cooped up for so long during this past year, get more out of your next break, from sailing with plenty space with your own vehicle to taking a road trip to an adventure that offers endless space and freedom. Sailing the open sea is one of the safest options to getaway.
