Travelling with a pet from Harwich to the Hook of Holland with Stena Line couldn’t be simpler. It costs just £15 each way per dog, and owners can decide if they would prefer their pet to stay in their car or in one of the onboard kennels (must be booked in advance). Foot passengers must also book a kennel. Amsterdam is one of the most pet-friendly cities in Europe, with cafes, restaurants and hotels catered for those with four-legged friends.

One of the best places to stay in Amsterdam with a dog is the five star Hotel De L’Europe. The hotel even has a concierge service dedicated to four-legged guests, which includes dog walks, grooming, meals as well as treats – ideal for guests who wish to take advantage of the hotel’s spa treatments. Located along the Amstel River, the hotel is within easy access to key attractions including the Rijksmuseum.
Stena Line operates twice-daily six-hour return crossings between Harwich and the Hook of Holland, fares starting from £59 per person return from Harwich with a car www.stenaline.co.uk/ferry-to-holland.
